William Francis (Fran) Carroll Obituary

William Francis (Fran) Carroll, 98, passed away peacefully at the Auburn Hospital on November 27th. He was born in Lyons, NY, to Frank and Marie Carroll.

Fran enlisted in the Navy right after graduating High School in 1944.  He was stationed at Blue Beach in Okinawa.  He served as a Pharmacist Mate under the 1st Marine Battalion in World War II until 1946. 

When he returned from the war he attended High Point University in N. Carolina where he earned a BS Degree in Science.  He then transferred to Syracuse University and earned a Masters Degree in Psychology.  After college he taught for 34 years in all sciences and mathematics courses on both Junior and Senior High School levels.  He taught in Washington, DC, Maryland, Palmyra, Jordan and West Genesee. At Jordan High School he coached Basketball and Football.  He and his team won 2 State Championships in Football. He also drove the team to games in a Jordan school bus. While teaching at West Genesee High School he coached Football and Soccer. He and his Soccer team won 5 State Championships.

During the summer ten week school vacations he had a painting, roofing and general repair business that employed between five and seven people. Fran also had a franchise business of selling lawn equipment in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter.

After retiring from teaching Fran was employed part-time for the N & N Publishing Co., Inc. as a commissioned salesman selling Regents review books to High Schools throughout 16 counties.

Fran was a member of the J-E Lions Club, the Jordan  Masonic Lodge #386 F&AM,  the Scottish Rite, the Tigris Field Band and Motor Patrol, the Court 79 Royal order of Jesters and the Jordan United Methodist Church.

Fran was married to his wife, Jane Eno Carroll, for 64 years until her passing in December of 2020.

Fran is predeceased by his two sisters, Dorothy Carl and Jean Carroll and his Grandson, Rick Burke.

Fran is survived by his three daughters, Maureen (David) Longo, Patricia Ralphs, and Dianne (William) Austin, Grandsons, Christopher (Rebecca) Burke, George Ralphs, two Great-Grandchildren, Emma and Bennett Burke.

Friends and family are invited to Masonic Services followed by a Memorial Service to be held 11am Saturday, Dec. 7th at the Jordan United Methodist Church, 63 Elbridge Street. A spring  burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
