Susann H. Panek-Rounds, 72, of Jordan, formerly of Syracuse, left us Sept. 24, 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 31, 1948 and grew up in Ithaca. Susann moved to Syracuse in the sixties and attended Syracuse University. She is survived by her husband Brian, sons Todd (Aubry), Christopher (Eric), Matthew (Heidi) and Joey (Jerry), grandsons Christian (Lillian), Joseph and Jack, sisters Nancy Nellons and Andrea Holl, nephews Lee Baker and Joshua Nellons, her loving uncle Frank Curti Jr. and Uncle Ronnie and caring Aunt Lydia (Curti) Hand, cousins Eddie and Kitty Balduzzi, Tommy and Gloria Calderone, the Garafolo family and her ex-husband Joseph Panek. She was predeceased by her brothers David Johnson Holl and Raymond Manning. In her busy life she was a legal secretary, owned a diner, founder of CNY Barry Manilow Fan Club, managed the Scintas Act, and was a licensed real estate broker in Florida. Most recently she owned and operated Pint Size Pies Made in CNY (Shopping Town) and Perfectly Packed Parcels. The very first Syracuse Italian Festival was founded by Susann. In the political arena, Susann was elected to the Syracuse Common Council representing the 2nd District, Counselor at Large, and President of the Common Council. One of her best friends of 57 plus years, Richard Klink was the first person to contribute to her campaign. Susann’s campaign managers Bill Tassone and David Butler stated that so many people told her she couldn’t win but she proved them wrong. Theresa (McCarthy) Brusa, Joan Christenson and Joe Nicolleti past city counselors are still long life time friends. Susann was a patron and performed in Syracuse local theatre. Very special friends Eddie Leno and Raymond Masita always had a place in Susann’s heart. Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the acquaintances and loyal friends that Susann met and held dear in her life. All of you helped in many ways to promote and form Susann’s extraordinary life. Special thanks to Dr. Jack Fine, DVM for caring for dog, Mozzie, primary care Dr. Mary Price, Jordan Ambulance Service, Crouse Emergency Room and 5th floor personnel. Susann (“The Candle Lady”) would like to thank all the caring and compassionate people at Hematology & Oncology Associates for her care. Private graveside services will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordan.
Contributions may be made to the Food Bank of CNY.
