Roderick Kellar Obituary

Roderick D. Kellar (Rod) of Baldwinsville New York entered eternal rest on Thursday, July 30, 2026 after a lengthy illness.  He was much loved and surrounded by family, friends and the compassionate staff at McHarrie Place (Syracuse Home).

Rod was born on September 26, 1939 at home, in the town of Elbridge, to William Donald and Pearl Kellar (Chapman).  Rod graduated from Elbridge High School. Upon graduation he joined and served in  the U.S. Coast Guard.  After his discharge, he attended the International Data Processing Institute and then Auburn Community Collage.  He was then employed by General Telephone (GTE) Camillus for 21 years.  Upon retirement from GTE, he joined Tektronix to end his working career.

Rod was an active member of St. Marks’s Lutheran Church of Baldwinsville, where he served on the Church Council, ushered, sang in the choir and was a member of the Outreach Committee.      Rod was an avid outdoorsman who appreciated the beauty in nature. He loved planning camping trips for his family and spending time canoeing.   He was a former member of the Fair Haven Yacht Club where he sailed his boat TEHO (To Each His Own).  Rod was a gifted woodworker using his lathe to handcraft and to restore pieces “to their former glory.”  Rod enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and later enjoyed watching college games.

Rod was predeceased by his parents W. Donald and Pearl Kellar, and his brothers James and Dennis Kellar.  He is survived by his loving wife Nancy and daughter Kristen (James) and grandcat Phoebe.  Also, nephews Matthew (Kelly), Michael (Barbara), niece Cindy (Bill), and several cousins.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 5th, 2026 from 10-11 am at St. Mark's Lutheran Church located at 2840 Cold Springs Rd., Baldwinsville.  Rod’s Celebration of Life will be at 11 am.

Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery located at 70 Tappan St. Baldwinsville.
