Robert (Bob) H. Gumaer, 83, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. He was born in Meridian and was the son of the late Woodrow W. Gumaer and Mary (Drogalis) Gumaer. Bob was a graduate of Jordan High School, Class of 1954, where he met his future wife of 55 years, Shirley (McNickol) Gumaer, who predeceased him. Bob joined the Army and ultimately attended the SUNY College at Brockport, where ‘Mr. Magic’ played basketball. Bob graduated in 1964 and was inducted into Brockport’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999, and into the Jordan-Elbridge Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017. Bob taught in the Liverpool School District, worked in a variety of positions for several corporations, and ran his own business. He coached several sports from Little League to high school and was very active in his community. Bob is survived by his two sons, Jeffry Gumaer and wife Lesley of Orwigsburg, PA and Matthew Gumaer and wife Amy of Syracuse, and three granddaughters: Anna, Lauren, and Phoebe. Other survivors include his sister Marilyn (Gumaer) McLaughlin and several nieces and nephews.
Viewing is on Monday, March 9th from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Bush Funeral Home, 120 East Main Street, Elbridge. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 10th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 28 North Main Street, Jordan.
