Olin G. Hudson Obituary

Olin Gates Hudson "Olie," was 94 at the time of his passing in the wee hours on April 30, 2025. Olin had been a lifelong Camillus resident, until recently moving with his bride, Sue, to Brookdale Summerfield Senior Living Community in Onondaga Hill.

As a young boy in the 1940s, Olin moved with his family from Baldwinsville, to where Manorcrest Farm sits atop Munro Road in Camillus. Olin was the youngest of Arthur and Ellen (Gates) Hudson's six children: Marion (Dixon), Gates, Charles, Harlan, and Earl, all now deceased.

After graduation from Camillus High School in 1948, Olin joined his dad and three brothers:  Charles, Harlan, and Earl, in the family dairy and poultry business. Olin often joked about graduating from the School of Hard Knox, but that date is unclear.

In July 1952, Olin married Jane (Barry) Hudson and together they had two children:  Fredrick (Deborah Fischer) of Camillus and Merry Ellen Hudson (Vincent Mierek) of Holland Patent, NY.  Jane passed away in 1998 after a long illness and, on a beautiful day in June 2001, Olin and Sue (Ottaway) Rittberg were united in marriage and enjoyed nearly 24 years of love and devotion.  A beautiful blended family of five was formed with the addition of Sue's three children, who Olin proudly called his own:  Jonna Weaver (Kirk) of Elbridge, Marchele McCutcheon (Paul) of Westhampton, MA, and Robert Rittberg (Wendy) of Ashburnham, MA. Olin and Sue shared 10 grandchildren (Bruce, Jason, Mark, Emily, McKayla, Destinee, Amanda, Kurt, Henry, Alexandra), and 14 great grandchildren.

Olin was a gentle soul with a lively charismatic nature and always loved a good laugh. What he loved perhaps more was a big bowl of ice cream, graham crackers and milk, or a root beer float! Olin could fix anything and was talented in so many ways, included was his love of woodworking. Many folks who had traveled in and out of Olin's life took with them a wooden bowl turned out by hand in his wood shop. All in all, Olin was a hardworking, God fearing, husband, dad, grandpa, pop, poppa, brother, and cousin, and will be dearly missed. His memory will live on each time we retell a story, reminisce, or hear the reverberating words, "I'M A HUDSON! " We'll see you when we get to heaven.❤️
