Norman Howes, 96, Memphis, NY passed away Saturday, October 1st after a short illness. Norm was born May 20, 1926, and was raised in Jordan, NY. Norm retired from Carrier Corporation in 1991 and was a lifelong farmer with his father-in-law and sons. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII. Norm was a member of the Jordan United Methodist Church where he was very generous with his time and served on the JE Area Church Board. He drove for Meals on Wheels and JET bus. He served as a volunteer at the Jordan Fall Festival, JEACB Food Pantry and was a first responder with the Memphis Fire Department.
When not volunteering his time, Norm enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, friends and his mule, Rose. A lover of nature and all things great and small, Norm had a penchant for fixing things and repurposing whatever was at hand.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years, Doris (Snow) Howes, children Rebecca (David)Soergel, Daniel (Dianne Faas), Christine (Todd) Town, grandchildren Rebecca (Alan Yanahan) Howes, Emily (Jaron Kent-Dobias) Howes, Alex Town, Nathan (Devin Higgins) Town, Sarah Soergel, Amanda (Daniel) Amadon, Julie (Alan Moore), Denise and Audrey (Mike Bastedo) Button. Also survived by his sister, Barbara Maier, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son, Charles and siblings Olive Shoemaker, Mary Maines, Almon Howes.
Calling hours to be held at the Jordan United Methodist Church, 63 Elbridge St, Jordan, NY on Thursday, October 6, 4-7PM with a celebration of life at 10:30 AM Friday, October 7 also at the church.
