Matthew T. Davis Obituary

Matthew T. (Snoot) Davis, passed away August 8, 2025 peacefully and quickly at Auburn Hospital. He was born December 22, 1969 to Bill and Gloria Davis in Auburn, NY. He graduated from Jordan Elbridge High School in 1988, attended OCC briefly before following in his father’s footsteps as a crafted carpenter. He spent his life working with his father, brother, Reynolds & Sons Roofing and various other companies in conjunction with H. Foy as a subcontractor until he became disabled in 2022.

He is predeceased by his father William M. (Bill) Davis and mother Gloria F. Zellweger Davis-MacNabb, Black Dog, Black Dog, Brown Dog, his niece Hayley Smith, brother- in-law Rick Smith and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by siblings Kenneth (Kelly), Deborah Smith, Andrew “Newt” (Catherine), his aunt Margaret Zellweger Sposato (Frank), his dogs Sir Maarten Davis and Von. Also surviving are his step children Brooke and Brandon Larkin (Jennifer Lawless Davis) and his nieces. He is also survived by his life-long friend, companion, and caregiver Kelly Yawney Fletcher.

As a Jordan Elbridge graduate in 1988, his high school career included varsity football his sophomore, junior (honorable mention) and senior year (team captain, honorable mention.) He played varsity lacrosse his junior and senior year and in their senior year brought them to winning the league championship in 1988 on a “magic carpet ride of the season”. He played lacrosse at OCC and was an outstanding goalie, even after open heart surgery in the Alumni game in June of 2015.

Matt was a simple man and his ways of thinking were quite primitive. The loves of his life were his pets. He was known as one of the sweetest men around. He had the memory of a steel trap and a heart of gold. I cannot think of someone he ever dated that he wronged. There were not many people who did not know that they were always safe and protected around Matt and his friends. Over the last few weeks Snoot started recalling memories of his past. “Matt Ward. he didn’t hit you with his right” (Basketball). “Rory Thorpe, nice right hook in the mash pit at Weedsport. He had a love of family, animals and farming. He went missing as a toddler and was found at a neighbor’s home in a kitchen with a diaper, a jug of milk and a loaf of Italian bread. Heights never seemed to scare him; he jum[ed off the top of the State Ditch Bridge at age 8.

His hobbies were hunting, fishing, horseshoes, billiards, bowling, and golf to name a few, excelling in each of these every game he played. He worked hard and he played hard. His accomplishments later in life were the most outstanding.

Beginning in 2013 he had a medical complication and he survived open heart surgery, a pacemaker, a Watchman implant, adrenalectomy, a DVT, 3 strokes, 7 seizures, a diabetic coma, Stage 2 kidney cancer, Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, the loss of his spleen and many other medical complications from the pancreatectomy. An undiagnosed medical issue took him quickly and painlessly in the end.

He will be missed by all, but certainly not forgotten.

Per his wishes there will be no services or funeral.  There will be a celebration of life on Saturday November 22,2025, place and time to be determined, and the notice will be updated on this obituary and on Facebook.
