Louis Harold Taylor

Louis Harold Taylor, age 89, of Elbridge, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, July 22, 2025, at Iroquois Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Doris (nee Curry) Taylor.                                                                                                              

A lifelong resident of Elbridge, Louis graduated from Elbridge High School in 1954, served in the York State National Guard, and was employed by AT&T, New York Telephone, and retired from NYNEX after 35 years. As a proud member of the Elbridge Volunteer Fire Department for 71 years, Louis served several years as chief and assistant chief of the department, actively paraded with the department for many years, and flipped hundreds of pancakes at the monthly pancake breakfasts.He maintained membership in FASNY (Firefighters Association of the State of New York) and the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs. He was also a member of the Elbridge Community Church, Telcom Pioneers, and American Legion Post 317, and a former member of CWA (Communication Workers of America).

In his retirement, friends would often find him on the golf course, working at the local hardware store, or indulging in breakfast (and perhaps some local gossip) at the diner. Lou also enjoyed camping, jigsaw puzzles, model railroading, and crosswords.

Louis is survived by his wife of 67 years Agnes (nee VanDuser); his four grateful children: Deborah (Scott) Winzeler, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Taylor, Constance (Edmund) Harris and Sherry Taylor. He will be especially missed by his three grandchildren: Jillian, Samuel, and Erin Taylor.

Calling hours will be held at Bush Funeral Home, E. Main St., Elbridge, NY, on Friday, July 25th from 3 to 6 pm. A celebration of his life will be held 10am  Saturday, July 26that the Elbridge Community Church, E. Main St., Elbridge, NY  with a reception following at the Elbridge Fire Station on E. Main St.  The family will join the reception after a private burial atMt. Pleasant Cemetery, Elbridge. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Louis’ memory to the Elbridge Volunteer Fire Department, Elbridge Community Church, or American Legion Post 317, Skaneateles Falls.
