Kathleen "Katie" Hinman Obituary
Kathleen Ann (Katie) Hinman of Elbridge died peacefully in her sleep at Francis House in Syracuse, NY on August 8, 2024, at age 89. She was born to John and Marie Bateman of Jordan, NY on September 8, 1934 and she was a life resident of the Jordan-Elbridge community.
Katie retired after 33 years at Skaneateles Savings Bank in Skaneateles, NY. Her last job there was student loan officer. She called the students she helped “her kids,” and many visited her when home on break to tell her about their college experiences.
Katie was a 1951 graduate of Jordan High School, and she attended one church, St. Patrick Church in Jordan, NY, for her entire life. She sang in the choir for many years, many of those years singing in Latin.
Katie made friends wherever she went: places like church, study club, work, and bridge club. She described herself as a country cook and loved to cook for her family, especially when she could use vegetables from her garden. She also loved tending her flower garden, and it was there she went when she chose solitude and peace.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her husband, Bob, at their rustic camp on the Oswegatchie River in Wanakena, NY. There they swam, canoed, hiked, and, at the end of the day, toured the river on their party boat.
Katie is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Mary Elizabeth. She is survived by her son David and daughter-in-law Margie of Lake Saint Louis, MO; and her granddaughter Jessica Hinman (Nathan Shaw), and great-grandson Myles Shaw, of Hazelwood, MO.
Calling hours will be 4-7pm Monday Aug. 12th at Bush Funeral Home, 120 E. Main St. Elbridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Tuesday in St. Patrick Church, Jordan.
Donations can be made to St. Patrick Church Restoration Fund or Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave, Syracuse, NY, 13208 or on their website: francishouseny.org > Ways to Donate and Assist > Donate Today.
