Judith Winship Hollands,
former author, educator and child advocate,
passed away February 26, 2025, at Crouse
Irving Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Syracuse, NY to Robert and Patricia Winship and resided most of her life in the immediate area.
Judy grew up in Baldwinsville and would frequently reminisce about her times at the Elizabeth
Street School, cheering for the Bees in High school, Joining Alpha Mu, dancing at Canteen, and
exploring the village while her parents ran the local shoe store, Winship Shoes.
After high school, Judy spent a year at the University of Rhode Island, where she would form some life-long friendships.
She finished her education at Boston University where she joined Chi Omega and discovered her passion for teaching and literature.
Judy went on to teach elementary school and wrote over 12 Children’s books. Judy’s time as a published author brought her to speak at numerous schools in the area. She
also taught creative writing to children at the Young Writers Workshop for Syracuse University Summer Sessions.
Later, she would work as a tutor in the writing Skills Center as well as an ESL and English professor for Onondaga Community College.
Surviving is her daughter, Natalie Hollands Davis (Philip), granddaughters, Rainie Monteith and Everly Davis, grandson, Austin Davis,
and former husband, James Warner Hollands (Vicki Burch).
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Patricia Winship, her sister, Martha Langford and her son, Matthew Hollands.
Judy leaves behind several very close friends whom she loved dearly, especially her lifelong
childhood friends, Marcia and Debbie, as well as her college friends from The University of Rhode Island and Boston University.
During her lifetime, Judy touched countless hearts and souls as a neighbor, friend, instructor, mentor, and stand-in-Mom.
Judy will be remembered for her talent, her unapologetic approach to life, her countless words of advice, her resilience, and her exceptional sense of humor.
Celebration of life will be in May at her parents’ former shoe store in Baldwinsville, Mohegan Manor, 58 Oswego Street, Baldwinsville in May, followed by a private burial in New Hampshire.
