Joyce Jewell (Parker) Obituary

Emma Joyce (Parker) Jewell (who went by “Joyce” most of her life), of Baldwinsville NY, passed away peacefully on July 3rd, 2024. She is survived by her daughter Diane S. (Parker) Zobro of Cato NY, son Andrew D. Parker  (Mary Yablonski) of Baldwinsville NY, grandson Daniel Parker of Syracuse NY, sister Marijean Schaefer of Baldwinsville NY and niece Veronika (Gil) Freeman of Frankfort NY, and former sister-in-law Judith Parker of Pulaski. She is predeceased by her first husband, and father of her children, Howard A. Parker and her second husband Clarence L. Jewell, her parents Bernice and Lawrence Snell, sister Joan Feesche, brothers in law Hans (Jack) Feesche, and Albert Schaefer, niece Monika (Feesche) Allen of Watertown, former brothers in law Bruce Parker, Jim Parker and Richard Parker. On her late husband Clarence’s side of the family there were several brothers & sisters in law and a number of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Joyce grew up in the small town of LaFargeville, NY. Following her high school graduation, she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Oswego State. She married Howard A. Parker in 1959. They had 2 children, Diane & Andrew. Following his passing, she remarried in 1970 to Clarence L Jewell. Clarence passed away in 2003. Joyce remained in the family home on Van Buren Rd. until she moved into an apartment on O’Brien Rd, which she loved.

Joyce was a sweet soul, always offering a kind word and a smile to everyone she encountered. She loved to send birthday cards, and often shuttled others to and from appointments or church services for many years before she had to stop driving. She was an extremely active member in her church, Hillview Community Baptist, where she sang in the choir and played the organ/piano until the church closed. She held various offices in Church Women United, American Baptist Women, and some other Christian organizations for a large part of her adult life. She was most recently attending church at the Federated Church of Port Byron.  She was very passionate about these causes and groups. She had not been physically able to participate in much for quite some time, however, but did her best to remain in contact with her fellow Christians via phone calls and cards. Prior to her physical decline, she traveled to Europe with the Senior Citizen’s group, and frequently took other short trips. She enjoyed being a member of the Red-Hatters senior group as well as spending time at Canton Woods Senior Center.

Friends and family are invited to call 3-5pm Saturday, July 20, 2024 at the Bush Funeral Home 120 E. Main St. Elbridge. Burial will be in the Dugway Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Port Byron Federate Church.
