Jane Marie (Gridley) Farrugia

Jane Marie (Gridley) Farrugia passed away in her home on December 25,2020. She was 89 years old. Her loving husband of 68 years predeceased her earlier this year. Jane was the mother of four children; David (Gail), Michael (Katherine), Joseph (Patricia) and Denise. Although Denise predeceased her in 1975, she always held a significant place in her mother’s heart. There was something special about the mother and daughter bond that they shared, especially after three boys! Jane also was extremely proud of her boys, both in their professional accomplishments and their own loving families.

Jane was the second youngest child in her own family of twelve. She fondly remembered the hustle and bustle of her childhood, especially near the Christmas holidays. The Christmas tree was not decorated until Christmas Eve and there was always a Christmas village complete with a train that ran around the living room. Christmas was a special holiday for Jane. Gifts to her family brought her great joy.

The story of Jane and Joe became the “real thing” when Joseph asked Jane’s father if he could marry her during an exciting televised boxing match. The next day her father remarked that he thought he recalled giving Joe his blessing, although he wasn’t sure due to the fight! Their marriage was one of enduring love and life-long commitment. Jane and Joe especially enjoyed community theater and ballroom dancing.Jane worked together with Joe as they created a successful food market in Elbridge, Jordan and several other communities.

Jane’s enduring legacy was her steadfast strength in the face of the challenging experiences of life. She was a model of determination, endurance and love. She leaves behind her children, nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, her sister Carol Lanzendorf, nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19, arrangements will be private. The family requests that any donations be sent, in Jane’s memory to Maple Grove Cemetery, P.O. Box 363, Jordan, NY 13080 or Hospice of CNY & of the Finger Lakes.
