Jane O. (Ohlson) Alvord

WeeJane O. Alvord of Elbridge, New York, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. She passed away on July 6, 2022 at the age of 92.

She was born to Harry and Charlotte (Butlin) Ohlson on April 30, 1930, in Syracuse, New York. After graduating from Onondaga Valley Academy, she attended Central City Business Institute. Jane went on to work for the City-County Youth Board in Onondaga County and for the College of Human Development at Syracuse University. She was proud to have three of her children attend SU as a benefit of her employment there.

Jane was predeceased by her husband Arthur Gravina with whom she had four children. Her son Craig Gravina also predeceased her. She leaves behind her sons David Gravina, Steven Gravina and daughter Christine (Gary) Groves as well as granddaughters Lindy (David) Curry and Stacy (Joseph) Harrison (and their children, her great-grandchildren) and grandsons Kyle and Shane Groves all of whom she adored. She was also predeceased by her husband Elwood “Al” Alvord. She leaves behind his four children: Greg Alvord, Pam Spirko, Alan Alvord and Kristi Avalos including their spouses, children and grandchildren. Jane was predeceased by her brother Harry (Debbie) Ohlson and leaves behind her sister Ann (Lon) Stafford, a niece, a nephew and their children 

Jane was a great cook and loved spending time in the kitchen preparing meals for family gatherings, had a passion for rescuing cats and dogs that she knew ‘needed her’ and enjoyed watching and feeding birds in her backyard. She was a skilled knitter and shared her craft by gifting handmade mittens to loved ones. She volunteered at the Literacy Foundation after retirement and enjoyed lunches with her high school classmates “the Valley Girls” well into her 80s. The simplest pleasures brought great joy to Jane and she openly expressed gratitude for everything. Her cheerful outlook and bright smile along with a quick wit drew everyone she met to her. Words can’t express how much she will be missed.

Jane will be remembered in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Bush Funeral Home, 120 E. Main St., Elbridge, New York. Calling hours will be 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with services at 12:00 pm, Rev. Thomas Bell officiating, followed by burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Bush Funeral Home
