Elbridge, NY. – Eva (Eve) H. Schwab Smith, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and wise friend passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 95 surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, Dec. 24th after a long illness.
Born May 30, 1924, in Preble, NY, Eve grew up on her family farm. She graduated from Tully High School at the age of 16 and went on to Syracuse Business School. After school she worked at Crouse Hinds until she married her first husband, Harold Schwab. She was devoted to her children and husband and was a stay-at-home Mom back when this was a common ideal. Here she learned the joys of gardening and playing cards with her neighbors, but her most cherished time was that spent with family.
Eve loved reading and learning. A relaxing day for her was spent quietly on her couch with a good book. Eve was a loyal Yankee fan and never missed a game, often with Yankee cap on and ever ready to make it a rally cap. She also loved crossword puzzles, playing her piano and baking; she was famous for her apple pie.
Eve is survived by her three children,; Richard Schwab (Barbara) of East Syracuse, Dr. Stephen Schwab (Kathy) of Elbridge, and Diane Bronson (Edward) of Pittsboro, NC (although it should be noted, that she treated and loved Barbara, Kathy, and Ed as her own children); two step daughters. Susan (Fredric) Jakes of Marco Island, FL, Terri (Harold) Ferguson of Troutville, VA; her seven grandchildren, Cory Brosch (Frank) of Oswego, NY, Jennifer Stanger(Christopher) of Pittsford, NY,, Kelly Swimm (Daniel) of Chapel Hill, NC, Robyn Porpiglio (Joseph) of E Syracuse , Valerie DePietro (Jeffrey)of Chapel Hill, NC; Kristin Schwab of Kirkville, N.Y, Kathryn (Daniel) Printup of North Syracuse; and 14 great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
