Eleanor (Penny) Barber, 95, of Elbridge passed away peacefully on October 1st at home surrounded by her children.

Penny is the daughter of August and Elizabeth Pennacchia who immigrated to the US from Sonnino, Italy. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Taddeo of Syracuse and predeceased by sisters Mary and Rosanna and brother Louis.

Penny’s children are Susan (Dick) Barber-Blais of Mechanicville, NY, Edie (Rob) North of Skaneateles, NY, Betty (Dale) Rines of Gorham, ME, Mary (Ron) Loerzel of Jordan, NY, Charles Barber of Elbridge, NY, John (Darcy) Barber of Jordan, NY, James (Tori) Barber of Presque Isle, ME and two Angels - Gladdie and Judy Barber.

Penny was also blessed with eleven grandchildren, Emily, Kelly, Robin, Katie, Maggie, Zachariah, Michael, Stephen, Sarah, Nate and Jordan. In addition, thirteen great-grandchildren Colin, Jack, Braeden, Maddie, Lillian, Maeve, Evelyn, Mara, Killian, Benjamin, Thomas, Ely and Owen.

Penny was a graduate of North High School (Syracuse) in 1947. Growing up, Penny was a member of Our Lady of Pompei Church, where she, along with her sister Peggy, performed with the “famous” Pompeian Players.

She earned her nursing degree from Crouse Irving Memorial Nursing School. She worked as a nurse at Crouse Hospital then at Pediatric Associates in Camillus until retirement.

Penny was a communicant at St. Patrick Church in Jordan. She sang in the church choir for many years under the direction of her dear friend Marge Austin, and sang with the Senior Singers of Skaneateles. Penny was also active in Altar & Rosary Society.

Penny had many true and forever friends. She was blessed with a loving family, strong Catholic faith and was so proud of her Italian heritage.

Calling hours will be 4-7pm Friday, Oct. 4th at the Bush Funeral Home, 120 E. Main St. Elbridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Saturday in St. Patrick Church, 28 N. Main St. Jordan The Rite of Committal and burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
