Doris V. Chesebro (Fassinger), 99, passed away on December 2nd at home.  Doris was the first of five children born to Robert and Frances Webster and she was the last of her siblings and their spouses to pass.  Doris married Arpard Fassinger in 1947.  They moved to Jack’s Reef where they raised five children, living there for 50 years until Arp’s passing.  In later years, Doris married Chester Chesebro and moved to Central Square.  Upon his passing, she moved to Camillus for her remaining years.

Doris was outgoing and friendly, often offering a smile and a warm hug to everyone she met.  Always putting her family first, she enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and joining in their special life events.  She loved birthdays and family celebrations of all kinds, looking forward each year to her own birthday as she approached 100.  A caregiver by nature, Doris spent hours at the bedsides of family members and friends offering comfort.  She was strong and resilient in the face of life’s challenges with a positive “coffee cup half full” outlook.

Baking cookies, making Christmas fudge and preparing the Webster date-nut pudding were some of her favorite things.  She loved coffee with her friends, playing games and cards, putting together puzzles and trying her luck on scratch offs.  Her grandchildren enjoyed her handmade Halloween costumes, pajamas and other special gifts.  All her children have at least one of her cross-stitched masterpieces.

She spent many years at camp on the St. Lawrence River where she prepared the best deep-fried Perch and Northern Pike from Arp’s catch of the day.  She and Arp made wonderful memories with their friends and family there.

In addition to her husbands, Doris was predeceased by her son James Fassinger and former daughter-in-law Nancy; her son Paul Fassinger and daughter-in-law Marsha. 

Left to keep Doris’s memories alive are son Donald Fassinger (Deb Henderson); daughter Janet Bates (Tim); son David Fassinger (Beth); grandchildren James Fassinger (Martina); Gary Fassinger; Jennifer Dugan (Mike); Justin Bates (Andrea); Evan Bates (Liz); Erin Kelly (Dan); Zachary Fassinger; Jonathan Fassinger (Anna) and nine great-grandchildren.  In addition, she is loved by Chester’s son Steven (Jackie); son Alan (Donna) and their families.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and her very dear lifelong friend Wilma Moore.
