Clark A. MacDowell, 95, of Baldwinsville passed away on Feb. 10th at the VA Hospital in Syracuse, NY due to a complication of COVID. He was born in St. Johnsville, NY on Dec. 8, 1925. Clark retired from ARCO after 20 years of service as a specialist in gas pump wiring and overall maintenance. He also worked for CDM Engineering Co. Clark was an avid bowler and won many trophies that he was proud to display. He was one of the greatest boating captains in CNY. “Clarky” was just one of the “good guys”.
Clark was a WWII veteran, serving in Germany and France and participated in the “Battle of the Bulge”. He always said “There was nothing more beautiful than the Statue of Liberty when he entered New York harbor”, on his way home to Syracuse.
He is survived by wife, Jean H MacDowell, sons Clark (Kathy) MacDowell and James (Linda) MacDowell, stepchildren Cindy (Clyf) Bourne, Pamela (Peter) Jones, Craig (Teresa) Merritt, Carey (Mary) Merritt,3 granddaughters, Carol (Peter) Dristle, Laurie MacDowell and Sara (Steve) Davis and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Anna (Belcher) MacDowell, brother Herbert MacDowell, sister Alena Howard and step son Jeffrey Merritt.
There will be a military service and burial in the Spring at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Syracuse. In lieu of flowers donations in Clark’s memory may be made to the CNY Humane Society.
