Blaire Louise (Fikes) Green, 91 years old, of Naperville, IL and formerly of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 14, with family by her side.  Born on March 2, 1933 Blaire grew up in Jordan NY. Blaire was both an athlete and a bit of a tomboy.  She loved sports but since girls at that time did not compete, she did gymnastics and team sports in school, and was a cheerleader for the men’s basketball team. She fished and hunted with her grandfather. She helped out at her parents’ business, the Jordan Coal and Lumber hardware store.  Blaire graduated at age 17 as valedictorian of Jordan High School, and went on to Powelson Business Institute in Syracuse, NY. She worked as a secretary both early and later in her career, but in the 1960’s and 70’s she drove a school bus in Baldwinsville because the schedule was more compatible with raising children. Blaire learned to sew, embroider, and knit at an early age, skills she learned from her grandmothers. At age 10, she sold embroidered items on her grandmother’s egg route. Later she sewed most of her family’s clothing, and knit sweaters, mittens, socks, and blankets.  While her husband initially bemoaned the $800 sewing machine she wanted in 1960, he later admitted that it paid for itself many times over.  Blaire started playing clarinet at age 9, and this was a source of joy her entire life. She played in the high school state band as well as the Syracuse University band.  Later she played in the Baldwinsville Community Band and the Liverpool American Legion Band.  A leader, Blaire was president of the PTA, and for decades presided over her condo board as well as serving in leadership roles in her bands. Blaire loved to travel, visiting her family, as well as exploring the U.S. and Europe with her sister Irene Stafford and her dear friend Gwen Corser. Blaire is survived by her children Jacalyn Green (Robert Tschirhart) and Brett (Laura) Green; her beloved grandchildren Erin Todus (Daniel), Charles Tschirhart, and Abigail Green; her great granddaughters, Raven Blaire Todus, and Violet Todus; her sister Irene Stafford; and five nieces and nephews. Blaire was preceded in death by her parents, Clare and Helen Fikes, and her former husband Jerry Green. With her extroverted nature and quick wit, Blaire loved people and had many friends. She will be sorely missed. A lifelong Episcopalian, Blaire’s funeral/memorial will be held on Monday July 22, 2024, 11:00 AM, at Christ Episcopal Church in Jordan, NY.  This will be followed by a luncheon at the church.  Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baldwinsville Community Band (Baldwinsville, New York) or to Christ Episcopal Church (Jordan, NY).
