Allen R. Webster

Allen Ralph Webster, of Elbridge, beloved educator and generally great guy, died Thursday, January 27 in the company of his wife. He was 74.

Mr. Webster was born July 31, 1947 in Auburn, NY to Ralph H. Webster and Ruth M. Mitchell. As a boy, Allen worked and engaged in hijinks with his two brothers on his family’s Poultry Farm, “The Home of the Webster Reds”.

He graduated from Union Springs High School and SUNY Brockport with a degree in mathematics and a minor in Physical Education.  While at Brockport, Allen met the beautiful Dana Schwartz, they married in 1970.

Mr. Webster proudly served 20 years and retired as a Major from the 2-108 Infantry Battalion of the National Guard.

He thrived as an educator in the Jordan Elbridge Central School district for 34 years before retiring in 2008. In addition to teaching Math, he also coached X-county and wrestling and shared his wealth of Rod and Andy jokes with a captive audience.

In his later years, Allen was an active member of the Elbridge Community Church where he served a variety of functions from Board of Directors to General Maintenance and the self-appointed “master” of the chicken BBQ. He was a member of the Jordan Lodge 386 F&AM.

Allen enjoyed simple pleasures. He loved cultivating, eating and forcing others to eat his home-grown strawberries. He kept a daily total of turkeys and squirrels visiting his feeders. And one of his greatest joys was relaxing at his camp on Cross Lake where he would shoot bb guns at tin cans and eat popsicles.

He was deeply loved.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dana C. Webster, formerly Schwartz; his children Christy and Matthew (Becky), two granddaughters, Phoebe and Nella, his brother Lynn (Susan) and brother-in-law, William.

Calling hours will be 4-7pm Tuesday, Feb. 1st at the Elbridge Community Church, 109 E. Main St. with services to follow at 7pm. Masonic Services will be prior to funeral service.  Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
