Albert “Al” James Watkins of Skaneateles Falls NY passed away Tuesday peacefully at home surrounded by his family and close friends.
Al was a veteran of the United States marines serving from 1956-1965. He worked at Syracuse University for 30 years retiring in 1999.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Virginia D. “Konzelmann” and their beloved dog Daisy and his three children, his son James (Sheila) Watkins of Fulton, daughters Sandra (Michael) Lisk of Kunkletown PA, and Darlene Holmes of Auburn NY, his brother in law Robert (Lorraine) Konzelmann of Hopewell JCT.
Al has 9 grandchildren Kevin (Shelby) Watkins, Laura (Steven) Evans, Emily Simpson, Jennifer (Christopher) LaFleur, Julie St. Martin Robbins, Christopher (Emma) St. Martin, Gregory Holmes, Shawn (Nikki) Holmes, Michael Holmes.
Al also has 10 great grandchildren. Maria, Ethan, Briana, Owen, Edward, Annabella, Wesley, Aliyah, Gavin & Mason. He was predeceased by his parents Herbert & Helen (Soutar) Watkins, his brothers Arthur and Donald, and sisters Pauline and Ruth. Al was the last surviving family member of his generation.
Al was a huge Syracuse Orange fan and truly enjoyed camping and spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed his annual “boys” trip to the Adirondacks. One of his greatest accomplishments was his constant remodeling and upgrading of his home of 59 years in Skaneateles Falls.
Per his request there will be no calling hours. There will be a celebration of Al’s life at his home on Saturday August 28th, at noon. His burial will be in the future at Maple Grove Cemetery in Jordan. In lieu of flowers and donations they can be made to ASPCA in Al’s memory.
