Madeline M. Vaverchak, 85 of Syracuse, formerly of Jordan and Liverpool, died Sunday morning at Upstate University Hospital surrounded by family. Madeline was born September 30, 1933 to the late Charles W. and Ona M. Watson Doherty. She worked her entire career at NY Telephone Co./Verizon retiring in 1991 after 28 years.
She was predeceased by her son Thomas who died on Feb. 15, 1975 as well as brothers John, Joseph, James, Paul, William, Michael, Richard and infant brother Patrick Doherty and sisters Marilyn Dikeman, Grace VanSickle and infant sisters Maureen, Agnes and twins Joan and Jean.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years Thomas, three daughters Madelyn (Robert) Breh of Camillus, Suzanne LaManna of Naples, FL and Jule (Donato) DiRenzo of Jordan. She also leaves seven grandchildren Kimberly, Thomas, Caroline, Dominique, Donato, Julie, and William, 11 great grandchildren Dylan, Madison, Jacob, Michaela, Lucas, Amalia, Elliott, Porter, Wyatt, Cameron and Kylee, 5 brothers and sisters, Winifred Vaverchak of Cicero, Ona Rechner of Jackson, NY, Gerald (Eileen) Doherty of Hawley, PA, Karen (Thomas) Batten of Honesdale, PA and Charles (Emilia) Doherty of Aurora, CO.
Calling hours will be 4-7 pm Thursday, Oct. 25th at the Bush Funeral Home 120 E. Main St. (Rt. 5) Elbridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Friday in St. Patrick’s Church 28 N. Main St. Jordan. The Rite of Committal and burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Cemetery fund.
