James Jeffrey Wilson

James Jeffrey Wilson, 79, of Elbridge passed away on Friday morning, February 9, 2024 at The Commons in Auburn with his wife of 59 years by his side.  He had fought cancer three times since 2001.  Born in Carthage, NY, he was the sixth of seven children born to James and Evelyn (Lee) Wilson.  He grew up in Copenhagen NY graduating from Copenhagen High School, where he excelled as an athlete.  He married Vivian Gene Aldous on August 15, 1964.

Prior to his retirement, Mr. Wilson was a member of the Teamsters Union, employed by Empire Cheese in Elbridge.  He worked as a separator operator, where he developed a love for vat-fresh cheese curd.

James was a loving dad who passed on his love of sports to his three sons, often playing ball in the yard, helping them to hone their skills.  He was humble about his own success as an athlete, and encouraged his boys, faithfully attending their games.  He also enjoyed taking the boys "down back" to go fishin' in the "crik."  These are special memories for both father and sons.

His favorite place to be was home with his family, working in his yard, and annually bringing fresh-picked bouquets of springtime lilacs to his wife.

He enjoyed watching his favorite teams, the Syracuse Orange, the Buffalo Bills, and the NY Mets; often explaining what they needed to do differently to win a championship.

In recent years, Jimmy was lovingly cared for at home by his wife Vivian and son Josh.  His canine companion, Chubby the Pug, was usually nearby.

James is survived by his wife Vivian, sons Jason (Holly) Wilson of De Witt and Joshua Wilson of Elbridge.  His sister, Cindy Lou Myers, and several nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents, two children, Jennifer Lyn and J. Jeffrey Jr, and siblings Kay Hosmer, Lee Wilson, Patricia Heath, Sharon Dodier and Stephen Wilson.

The family would like to thank the Staff at The Commons in Auburn for their compassionate care in Jimmy's last days.
