Shirley M. Gumaer, 76, of Jordan, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Upstate University Hospital Community Campus.  She was born in Syracuse to the late George D. McNickol and Audrey (Harmon) McNickol.  Shirley graduated in 1957 from Jordan High School, where she met her future husband of 55 years, Robert H. Gumaer.  Shirley is survived by her husband and their two sons, Jeffry Gumaer and wife, Lesley of Orwigsburg, PA and Matthew Gumaer and wife Amy of Syracuse, and three granddaughters: Anna, Lauren, and Phoebe. Other remaining family includes sister Audrey JoAnn Carroll of Liverpool, NY, and brother Alan McNickol of Duluth, MN as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother James Dean McNickol of Elbridge.

Bob, Shirley and their two sons left Jordan in 1970, moving around Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York, returning to Jordan in 1985.  Shirley was always happiest with her family and friends, returning frequently to Central New York during her time away to spend time with her extended family.  Shirley always offered support to those closest to her and watched with great pride as her family expanded to include a new generation, cherishing time with her granddaughters.
