James R. Sperling, 86 of Jordan died peacefully Saturday at Northwood Nursing Home, Moravia after a short illness. Jim served in the Army. After working 26 years at New Process Gear in Syracuse, he retired in 1992. He became known as the “junk man” in Jordan and he drove for Meals on Wheels until last October. A long time member of the Jordan United Methodist Church, he could be found in the kitchen washing dishes or waiting on tables at the dinners. Jim’s wife of 59 years, Charlotte, died May 23rd. Surviving are his children Joshua (Suzie), James (Babs), Jeff, and Julie, grandchildren Missy (Darryl) Joshua (Allie), Jesse, Lowell, Chris, and Olivia, great grandchildren Andrew, Nathan, Charlotte and Penelope, 2 brothers Clifford (Mary) and Burt (Grace), a sister Patricia, several nieces and nephews
Calling hours will be 3:30pm to 6:30pm Thursday, Sept. 15th at the Bush Funeral Home 120 E. Main St. (Rt. 5) Elbridge with a service to follow with the Rev. Glen Hardman officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Jordan United Methodist Church or Meals on Wheels, Syracuse.
