Barbara S. (Dixon) Barnett, lifelong resident of Onondaga County, NY passed away at home on April 16, 2016. Born December 7, 1928 in Camillus, she was 87 years old. Barbara was a 1946 graduate of the former Warner High School.

She was predeceased in 2004 by her husband of 56 years, John R. Barnett and is survived by her daughters, June (William) Simons and Janette (Vernon) Richardson, her son Rodney (Patricia) Barnett, 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, cousins and special friends.

Barbara loved God and family. She grew up during the Great Depression and later became a quintessential farmer’s wife. Raising chickens, growing produce and canning vegetables, Barbara worked side by side with her husband to provide for her family. She loved horses, particularly her Morgan mare named Melody, and when time allowed she could be found riding the trails. Her values of hard work, thrift, and care have been passed down through the generations and her example lives on in the hearts and minds of her family.

She had strong opinions that she was not shy about sharing. Whether agreeable or not, there were no questions about her positions on most topics. Her opinions and beliefs came from her lifelong Christian faith and her experiences with her family and community. Over the years she was involved in the Mendzit Club, NYS Wool Growers Assoc., the Wool Center at the NY State Fair, her Church, and the Friday Card Club.

Calling hours will be 4-7pm Wednesday at the Bush Funeral Home 120 E. Main St. (Rt. 5) Elbridge. Funeral service will be noon Thursday in the Elbridge Community Church with the Rev. James Stone officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Maple Grove Cemetery, Elbridge Community Church, or Hospice of CNY.
